This is just a warning to everyone. Before you buy a new video game console, fancy new phone, Smart TV, Smart watch, virtual reality (VR) headset, laptop/computer, tablet, etc you need to first consider how you'll protect the device.
Many of these devices now include web browsers, access to streaming services that contain highly sexual, arguably pornographic content. However, very few of them offer any degree of parental controls / accountability monitoring. With Black Friday shopping coming up, this is just a recommendation to everyone to consider how you'll protect your loved ones using the device before buying it.
Also--technology is almost always a horrible financial investment. Last years phone is worth less than half this year. Technology advances so quickly. You don't need the latest model of smart phone. Realistically most won't be able to notice much of a difference in picture from a TV purchased 10 years ago vs today. Don't let the marketing convince you it's worth it. Really think it through.
One of the tricks I use to consider if I really should buy something, is to force myself to wait a month (or longer) before making the purchase. If you repeatedly keep coming back to that item being the top priority for how you want to spend your money, then its probably worth buying. But, if after a month or two, there's some new item that's taken priority, then obviously you should pass on the original item.
I know times are tough now financially for many. These are just some thoughts as the holiday shopping season is about to kick off. In general, reducing technology in our lives will increase happiness more than buying a new tech gadget. Remember that.
Warning: Don't buy a new device without considering how to keep it safe!
