I've been at this for a while now. And I've done quite well over the past few years. Not perfect--but good. What I've noticed is not giving up is the key. Keep trying. Keep at it. When you fall, get back up as quickly as you can.
Over time what you'll realize is your time between relapses increases. At first it was 6 weeks or so. Then 3 months. Then 6+ months. Now years (and hopefully never again).
What this tells me is we need to be patient with ourselves and our loved ones. Porn/sexual content is literally designed to hack our brain and "capture" (in a very malicious sense of the word) our attention. I hope this message can help accountability partners, and those who are struggling, to reset expectations. Don't feel like all is lost if you haven't progressed as quickly as you wanted. Know that it takes time. Just do NOT give up. That is the ultimate key. As long as you do not give up, and you continue to learn/adapt, you will eventually overcome porn.
"not giving up is the key"
Strongly agree. For me it's just like quitting smoking. Each failed attempt teaches you how to do better next time. Eventually you find the temptation is easier and easier to resist. Porn is one of those things that grabs you tighter if you give in and weakens the more you reject it.

It really is so key to recognize this and to be patient. If you're impatient, it can make it more difficult. Of course, there is a balance.
