I had one rule. No voice chatting. My 14 year old had played Roblox for a long time, good clean kids game. Or so I thought. Over time it has become a place for people to meet and hang out, get to know one another. I gave her privacy out of respect for her as a human. She violated that right when she began using a mic and then lied to me about it. After that I started to dig, in front of her, and found layers of lies, emails and discord chats. She was sexting.
Now that did it. I took everything from her then and there. She spiraled. Started cutting and talking about suicide. Whether it was for attention or for real, I'm not taking chances with, and have started her down a path of getting her help.
As time went by, I allowed some things back, limiting this and that but giving her some leeway. Just enough to hang herself it seems. All of a sudden she was on her phone a lot. It was so obvious, leaving for the bathroom for 30 minute to an hour at a time. I gave her a chance to come clean. She would be on her phone forever but her history was clean as a whistle? No.
I got Truple. I love the screenshots, and the versatility in what you can or can't see. How long between shots, high risk screenshot warning, etc. I have found out that she had made new emails and got back on discord. The contents of which are excruciating. What I had seen before was nothing to what I was seeing in the screenshots. So here I am paying for the subscription and hoping you'll hear my story.
The Internet is a dangerous place, a dark alley for our youth. Please take care.
Hey, I just wanted to say, my heart really goes out to you. I'm only 18 and have had a very wonderfully sheltered life. I thought I was messed up untill I started hearing the Hell that is common for my peers. You parents have got so much work cut out for you. It can feel like you are constantly battling technology and banging your head against a wall (at least, that's the vibe I've gotten form parents I've talked to).
Here are few things I've bumped into in my research. The first is protectyoungeyes.com (no affiliation, I promise :) They have ton of resources on parenting in the digital age. They give a fabulous talk about this stuff that I highly recommend listening to https://vimeo.com/548439683?embedded=true&source=vimeo_logo&owner=23558052
Also, one thing that their founder said that stuck with me. . . . . . .
She's still your amazing, beautiful kid.
God Bless and keep up the good fight!!!

Its especially scary when its places like discord. General thought to be gaming chat rooms--many would hope would be safe and innocent. Thats not the case though unfortunately.
More parents need to hear your story. Please keep us up to date! Lets learn from each other.
